Do you ever wonder what it takes to write fiction, poetry or creative nonfiction? Are there craft skills you are wanting to improve or even learn about? Would you like to find a community of writers?  Well, you can Join Mid-American Review, BGSU’s international literary journal this November for their 23rd annual Winter Wheat Writing Festival.

Winter Wheat began at BGSU as one of the few festivals/conferences of its kind. The event is designed around workshops where writers can start crafting ideas for new creative writing. This festival draws over 300 participants each year and serves as a reunion point for BGSU alumni of BGSU’s English Department. Writers from the Midwest and beyond find themselves here in Bowling Green to participate in Winter Wheat.

The festival starts November 9th and goes until November 11th, a whole weekend of writing fun! The three day event provides many different activities including; generative writing workshops, readings, open mic nights, and opportunities to connect with fellow writers.

This year there are over 45 exceptional workshops, in fiction, poetry and nonfiction. There are also workshops regarding topics relevant to all writers, no matter the experience level. Participants are able to choose from a variety of online and in-person workshops. All workshops are led by seasoned writers and literary experts.

The keynote speaker of this year’s festival is none other than Faylita Hicks. Hicks is a distinguished author best known for their critically-acclaimed poetry collection HoodWitch. The festival will also feature BGSU faculty member Sharona Muir, their story collection Animal Truth and novel Invisible Beast.

Winter Wheat is a free festival and it is open to the public. You are invited to register for events through the website: www.bgsu.edu/winterwheat. For media inquiries or additional information, please contact winterwheat@bgsu.edu.

We hope to see you there!
