With the fall approaching quickly. A lot of us are looking for new reads/authors to cozy up with during the long nights. The fall also happens to be one of the biggest times for books to be published. I went ahead and found you some great and upcoming authors to check out and keep an eye on.

Nina Simon

Nina has just released her debut mystery novel Mother-Daughter Murder Night and it has already hit book clubs all over the country, including Reese Witherspoon’s. The new book follows Lana Rubicon a high-powered businesswoman with an L.A. real estate empire. However, she finds herself stuck 300 miles north of L.A. with her daughter Beth and granddaughter Jack. When Jack stumbles upon a dead body while kayaking she becomes a suspect in a homicide investigation. Lana decides its time the Rubicon women become amateur detectives and find who the murder is themselves. This gets all three of them tangled in family lies and vendettas, crossing lines into a dangerous territory.  This book was released this month and already has a 3.8 rating on Goodreads along with almost 600 readers. If the book continues to climb I think Nina Simon may become a name worth watching.

Amy Goldsmith

Amy’s first ever published book was released in June of this year and can be seen this month in Barnes&Nobles’ YA bookclub. Those We Drown follows Liv at the start of her semester at sea program. Liv received an all-expenses-paid opportunity aboard The Eos, not only is this a trip of a lifetime, but it will give her a chance to reconnect to her ex-bestfriend Will who is also attending. That is until he disappears on their first night aboard. The staff claims he’s just ill, but Liv suspects something more sinister. With over 800 ratings and a 3.38 on Goodreads this may just be the next YA read for the fall. Amy also plans to release another book come 2024.

Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Hannah is already approved for two more books in her series Assistant to the Villian. This horror romance you meet Evie Sage who is suffering with unemployment desperate for any job. So, when Rennedawn’s most infamous villain offers her a job, of course she says yes, it also helps that this villain is extremely nice to look at. With secrets and mystery Evie is determined to find out who is trying to sabotage her boss while trying to tell herself not to fall in love. This book is a comedic masterpiece tackling the morally grey character and his sunshine sidekick. With a 4.08 on Goodreads and 13,800 ratings, this author will keep you wanting more.

Nick’s debut novel The Great Transition came out last month and already has 600 ratings on Goodreads with a 3.95 star average. This novel takes place after the climate crisis and tells the story of Emi Vargas the daughter of the people who helped save the world. However, when dozen of climate criminals are assassinated her mother disappears as a possible suspect. Emi and her father venture from Nuuk, Greenland to New York City or what’s left of New York City. This story alternates between Emi’s need to find her mother and her account of her parents’ experiences in The Great Transition. This story is about family and what it means to call a place home. If you’re looking for new science fiction tackling more present day challenges I think Nick Fuller Googins is an author to keep in mind.
