Dear Readers,
This curated book list is coming to you from the computer of a fellow Bridgerton lover which means I simply had to start this article like the ever scandalous Lady Whistledown. The scandal and romance that viewers fell in love with while watching Bridgerton made this Netflix Original Series its largest hit yet. Inspiring this book list, if you loved watching the Bridgerton series, you’ll love reading these books.
Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn
If you were not aware Shonda Rhimes was not the original writer of Bridgerton. Instead the well-known romance author, Julia Quinn, is. Starting with The Duke and I and leading into an entire series of just about 10 books in total, this series features the same drama, scandal and romance with all the missing tidbits of thoughts, characteristics and personality quirks.
American Royals by Katharine McGee
The high-society social life of Bridgerton is what made every plot scandalous and author Katharine McGee gives all that energy into American Royals. The great fear of having a royal family was lost when America won the revolutionary war and in place the people gave George Washington the crowd. Now over two centuries later the House of Washington still is in power. This book offers the same thrill as Bridgerton with romance, scandal, comedy, family drama and a royal family.
Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore
Similar to Bridgerton, we are turning back the clock with this book set in England 1879. We follow the story of Annabelle Archer, a woman recruited to attend college by one of the women’s suffragist groups. But she is sent with a purpose and that is to recruit men to help their cause. The first prospect? The Duke of Montgomery, Sebastian Devereux.
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
A recent favorite of mine, this trilogy weaves together the story of Rachel Chu spending the summer with her boyfriend Nicholas Young. Of course, that’s not all. The thought that her boyfriend comes from this humble immigrant family in Singapore is scarcely inaccurate when she comes to find out his family owns the majority of the real estate in Singapore. There comes the pressure to impress his family, deal with this new truth and keep their relationship alive.
A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem by Manda Collins
Last but certainly not least because I love a good romance, mystery and scandal, I recommend this Manda Collins’s book. Set back in England at this time a bit earlier in 1865, Lady Katherine Bascomb believes that knowledge is power which shows in her life as the most notorious columnist in England’s newspaper. When a killer is found and then another murder happens right in front of Lady Bascomb herself, she’s left with the story of a lifetime. But Detective Andrew Eversham will make sure her story won’t hit the papers as she’s already ruined his life once, so he is determined for her to never ruin another investigation or write another false narrative. With a mystery to solve and the heat building up between these two protagonists, this book is the energy you need.
If I dare say myself these books would have both the queen’s and Lady Whistledown’s immediate approval.
