April is sexual assault awareness month and BGSU will host several virtual events to honor the seriousness of this month. In addition to attending BGSU’s virtual events consider reading books and memoirs about sexual assault, the #MeToo movement, and surviorhood.

  1. Hunger: A Memoir By: Roxane Gay

New York Times best-selling author Roxane Gay writes a raw memoir about her experiences with rape and the trials and triumph with experiencing and overcoming trauma and abuse.

  1. We’re Going to Need More Wine By: Gabrielle Union

New York Times Bestseller, We’re Going to Need More Wine, is a book that consists of honest accounts of her experiences with sexual assault, bullying, the struggle to conform to beauty standards.

  1. Know My Name By: Chanel Miller

Chanel Miller’s memoir is about her sexual assault by Stanford swimmer Brock Turner in 2016. This memoir allows for the high-profile sexual assault victim formally known as “jane doe” to introduce herself as Chanel Miller. This memoir walks the reader through the anxiety and PTSD she suffered, the flaws of the juridical system, and coping with trauma.
